Accounting Manager

Brandywine, MD

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our finance team. You will prepare financial statements, verify financial records and transactions, analyze cash flow, review budgets and forecasts, and oversee audits. You will also be responsible for working with and training existing staff as well as newly hired staff accountants. Our ideal candidate has at least three to five years of professional accounting experience with a track record for providing accurate and efficient work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements highlighting significant items. This includes month-end financial summaries for retail and real estate operations.
  • Lead and oversee the month end process. Ensure accrual of month end revenue/expenses.
  • Allocate revenues and expenses among the retail stores to provide store-by-store P&L.
  • Perform reconciliations between NetSuite, Bank Accounts, Sync HR, and Legacy to ensure accuracy of general ledger.
  • Create and produce ad hoc reports and analyses within NetSuite.
  • Ensure proper valuation of all assets and liabilities.
  • Ensure accurate record of any sale of fixed assets with appropriate gain or loss on sale.
  • Keep up to date on changes in the tax laws that affect the company, particularly focusing on depreciation and Section 179 expensing of fixed asset purchases.
  • Lead year end audit process by preparing work papers to support year-end financial reports.  Act as primary liaison with external third-party accounting firm to ensure timely and smooth year end audit process.
  • Calculate and maintain shareholder distributions.
  • Initiate automatic adjustments/journal entries in NetSuite.
  • Create new or edit existing general ledger accounts or invoice codes.
  • Ensure bi-weekly payroll is recorded and accounted for properly and timely.
  • Respond to requests for information and various projects received from management.
  • Continue to find ways to automate and increase efficiency with systems including NetSuite, Legacy, SyncHR, etc.
  • Provide guidance and training in developing other team members as a mentor within the department and throughout the organization.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel including Pivot Tables and V-Lookup.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint.
  • Accounting software experience including NetSuite a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Three to five years of general accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or in a private corporate environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree with accounting concentration required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license a plus.

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
